Test Track

Ware Lab

During the Fall of 2006, the Virginia Tech Baja team labored to construct a new test track from scratch. After acquiring land conveniently near our fabrication shop, the team quickly began to build. The new track had both an open field and thickly wooded sections, rugged and hilly terrain, mud, logs, and many varied jumps. This track will allow the team to test and tune future designs to perfection, and help to make Virginia Tech Baja one of the top programs in the country.

The track has been recently updated with the addition of moguls and larger jumps to test the 2009 vehicle and the 2010 vehicle upon its completion. Every member of the team has a chance to drive the car and get a feel for what design alterations would make the new baja vehicle better than in previous years.

The Ware Lab is the highly prestigious laboratory right on our Virginia Tech campus devoted to undergraduate student-design projects.  Here we have our project bay complete with all the necessary tools, parts, and storage to support a top tier design program.  We also have a state-of-the-art CAD design laboratory, a machine shop, and welding facilities.  All of these facilities have allowed us to maintain our level of fabrication as one of the best in the SAE competitions.  We are very gracious for our facilities, and without them would not be able to compete on the highest level as we do currently.
